Amtrak”s NextGen Acela Line Surpasses One Million Riders

Amtrak hit a major milestone Friday, serving over one million customer trips on its NextGen Acela fleet.

Amtrak President Roger Harris joined a team to thank customers at Washington Union Station with surprise and delights. NextGen Acela trains first went into service on August 27, 2025.

There are 28 NextGen trains serving passengers between DC, New York and Boston with speeds up to 160 mph.

“Our guests are at the heart of this milestone – one million trips on NextGen Acela is a powerful signal of the demand for world-class passenger rail in America,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “It’s our joy to celebrate with our customers this Memorial Day Weekend, as you travel and experience the best of high-speed, premium rail.”

With demand surging, Amtrak plans to add even more NextGen Acela departures, giving riders more flexibility on the nation’s busiest passenger rail line.
